Exige bursts into flames at N-ring 24h race, what happened to the driver?
EVO’s Roger Green was one of the three pilots to drive the number 114 Lotus Exige during the The 24 Hours Nürburgring endurance race in Germany. This years edition of the event on Ascension Day weekend of May 13-16 saw a return of most prominent entries, except the Ford GT, as team Raeder had discontinued this project. One of these is Lotus, and just after we cowered a more street-orientated car from the British maker in this article, the Exige was probably jealous and decided to burst in flames for attention. Extreme, but efficient.
The troubling display of race malfunction happened on the start of his second session in the car. No one’s exactly sure what happened with the engine, but the little Lotus burst into flames, good thing Green was quick to react to the problem and dived the car in the barrier while manually ejecting himself from the as of know ball of fire he was (supposed to be) driving. The fast tuck&roll can be seen in the video, and it saved his life most probably. Actually, writer/driver Roger Green escaped unscratched, in a close-to-miracle situation. Surely costumes have their important role, in case anyone doubted this.
The 2010 edition of the 24h N-ring race was won by the BMW M3 GT2 BMW Motorsport/ Schnitzer Motorsport team, record breaking and bringing 5th victory for Pedro Lamy
